Dear lady in the black sedan….

Filed under: Uncategorized — rj @ 7:31 pm

I know it was raining.

I know it was very very wet.

I know you probably had a very bad day

But I know you saw me coming.

In the rain, clinging onto a backpack in one arm, definently trying to get out of the rain.

You saw me. I know you did. I know you debated whether to go or not.

But like a deer caught in my threatening 150 pound, 6′1″ headlights, on a menacing 24 inch mountain bike, you froze.

You thought of going, but then stopped. thanks.

which reminds me…

Thanks guy in the cheap chinese bike factory. those breaks wouldn’t work to save my life. In fact they Didn’t work to save my life. I know you don’t get payed a lot, but neither do I, so next time, think of me when you’re aligning the breaks, k?

Back to the lady.

It truely was an amazing look on your face while I climbed off the hood of your car

Similarly, it was just as amazing how you drove away without a word

So in may ways I hope your car broke down a block away from internal damages, cuz you truely fail at life.

Sincerely, the kid on the bike.

So yeah. I dont think anyone ever reads this at all anymore.

Woo hoo!

So i figured I’d start writing on this again, not sure about what.

We’ll see.

I could just rant…

Why does everyone at my work think I sell marijuana?  Why does everyone in general? Hell, a kid can’t have long hair and not worry too much about life without taking drugs? something is wrong with you people.

Nah I don’t like ranting so much

fuck it im going to bed.

For all you spammers out there, I don’t want viagra, I’m not in debt, I certainly won’t follow your porn links. Please, I’m tired of having wordpress email me every few hours telling me about a new exciting comment about how I could get out of debt if I followed your link.

*headdesk*

I hope you spammers die a cold misreble worthless death, cuz that about sums up my view of what you do.

Spare Hardware (Sorry if this ends up on any planets/lists)

Filed under: Uncategorized — rj @ 9:07 pm

Apologies in advance for using my blog to sell/trade shit, but I have lots of old hardware, and need to get rid of quite a bit of it.

I’m currently looking for an apple notebook, either G3 or G4 (preferably g4), or a 6600 GT 128mb (so I can get SLi), but cash works too. I’ll ship anywhere ya pay me to, email me for more info/prices at rjNOSPAMmarsan NOfsckinSPAM! at gmail dot com (…i wonder how many of you will literally email it to rjnospammarsannofuckinspam@gmail.com)

(All As-Is, but I’m not lyin ’bout the condition they’re in)

Hardware:

  • 300gb SCSI 3 HDD @ 10k rpm (brand new)
  • 20″ CRT (so ungodly huge, prolly only if you are local and pick it up)

Rigs:

  • Amd Athlon 64 3000+, 1GB DDR, 160GB IDE, Radeon 9600 AIW (vid card+tv tuner) w/ annoying connector, if you want I can dig around for the remote and usb attatchment, both work under linux, DVD drive, CDRW drive, 500 Watt PSU Ubuntu Edgy, very decent; I play UT04 and Enemy Territory on it all the time, but the AIW’s connector is truely a POS
  • Amd Athlon XP 2200+ w/ Asus nForce K7N mobo, 768MB DDR, 30GB IDE and 3 36GB SCSI 3s in RAID effective 60GB (that means raid.. 5 right?), Nvidia TNT2, CD Drive, extra ethernet card, firewire card, SCSI AcceleRAID Mylex/LSI card, Ubuntu Feisty, I picked this up at a garage sale, then realized i already have way too many computers; so i made a list of all my spare PCs
  • Apple iMac G3 @ 400mhz, DVD Rom drive, 40GB HDD, Firewire, 2 USB, OSX 10.4 leopard. I don’t have an official mac keybord/mouse, but my ordenary USB ones work fine. I tried Ubuntu on it but Gnome is terribly slow
  • Toshiba 1115 S103 Laptop, 1.5ghz Celeron, 512 MB ddr, 16mb radeon 7500M (amazingly powerful, can run beryl at great framerates with the right xorg.conf), Wireless B and USB2.0 PCMCIA cards. Now let me be honest, this one needs quite a bit of work. The HDD is dead, although if i get a converter, I’ll have a CF replacement, the 13′ LCD has an issue with the backlight where it dies randomly, but a replacement is ~50 bucks. Cosmetically its partly composed of duct tape, mostly because its been taken apart so many times, not because its falling apart by any means. Its very light and mobile, the battery gets ~2 hours when speedstepped. It works 100% under Ubuntu.
  • Intel Celeron 700Mhz, MicroATX mobo, 512 SDRAM, 20GB IDE HDD, onboard video/sound, Ethernet Card, CentOS, The cool part is its in a speaker case. great for a music center since its in a gunked out speaker case i found.

All of the things listed above can be mixed accordingly (of course I can’t mix the laptop or iMac with much but you know what I mean).

Woo laptop!

Filed under: Uncategorized — rj @ 1:07 pm

So dell sent me my laptop back

100% fixed, with the updates BIOS

sadly though the bios doesn’t fix much.

i can open the DVD drive w/o kernel panics, but the kernel randomly panics when i start an SDL game

on the other hand suspend/resume works!

But it was the same laptop, with my 1000foss stickers.

This rocks. dell++

Dell Tech Support and Ubuntu

Filed under: Uncategorized — rj @ 8:42 am

So earlier this year I got a new dell laptop. I liked that dell laptop. Then last week the sound died. As natrual I blamed Feisty at first, but after booting into old feisty kernels, and even into edgy, it became apparent that the sound card had died.
So I had to call Dell Tech Support.
The horror. Oh the horrible horror.
I had heard so many horror stories of calling them that I tried to avoid it at all costs.
I stumbled across the direct2dell blog which mentioned:

If you buy a Dell notebook and run Linux on it, does Dell’s hardware warranty still apply? Absolutely. You’ll need to demonstrate you’re having a hardware problem using the Dell Diagnostics CD.

Great! so I grabbed the ISO and booted onto it. It hung on “Initializing HDAUDIO.MDM”
That pretty much nailed it. So after half an hour of trying to find my express service code (turns out it was on the bottom of my laptop) I called the number.

I was surprised. I was only on hold for about 5 minutes, and I could understand almost everything the guy said!
It took the tech guy a bit to realize I was NOT using Windows XP (He repeatedly asked me to use the Dell Remote Control tools). At first he blamed Ubuntu, but after explaining that the diagnostics CD crashed, he gave in and let me return it. It took him the good part of an hour processing the return request, and continually asked me questions about this “Linux”, and even forwarded me to the manager once it was done.

So now I have to send it back, they’re sending me a box to my house now.

We’ll see how this goes.

They’re letting you submit ideas, and voting for them (like digg)

<a href=”http://www.dellideastorm.com/”>

Ok so just do Linux a favor and vote.

I honestly doubt it means anything but hey, its worth 20 seconds of your life to vote for OO.o and Linux.

as for the people out there who don’t quite know how to vote, click the BIG check mark to the left….
